About Sable
Hi, I’m Sable. I’m a sustainable maker, performer, cosplayer, and disability advocate. I’ve been involved in theater for five years and began cosplaying seriously in 2024. I love the combination of creativity, craftsmanship, and performance that cosplay allows.
My first cosplay build was my Dungeons & Dragons character, Toadstool, which I created for the Casa de Fruta Renaissance Faire in 2024. That experience sparked a deeper passion for costume design and character performance. My first cosplay-focused convention was Fanime 2025, and later that year, I entered my first competitions at GalaxyCon San Jose, competing in craftsmanship, walk-on, and the masquerade in the kids division.
Outside of cosplay, theater has been a huge part of my life. I’ve performed in productions of The Addams Family, Elf, Beauty and the Beast, and The Jungle Book, as well as several student- and teacher-written plays and musicals. I’ve also worked behind the scenes as a stage manager and on the costume and makeup team for productions of Alice in Wonderland Jr. and Beauty and the Beast Jr.
My theater experience helped me discover a love for cosplay performance. Masquerades feel both familiar and completely new at the same time. I enjoy everything from choreographing performances and selecting audio to adapting dances and movement to work with mobility aids and complex costumes.
Along the way, I’ve been honored to receive several awards, including second place in a sewing competition, first place in a Fan Expo walk-on and interview competition, and first place in GalaxyCon’s walk-on competition in the kids division.
In early 2026, I was diagnosed with juvenile fibromyalgia, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and other chronic conditions. These diagnoses changed the way I experience the world and opened my eyes to just how inaccessible many spaces can be. Unfortunately, that sometimes includes cosplay spaces that are meant to be welcoming.
One moment that really stayed with me happened when I attended an event dressed as Black Widow while using a rollator. Someone came up to me and said, “You aren’t going to be beating any villains with that thing.” Instead of discouraging me, that moment strengthened my resolve to make the cosplay community more accessible and supportive.
My mission originally started with making cosplay more sustainable, especially by using repurposed materials and creative building techniques. Now, that mission has expanded. I’m also passionate about making cosplay more accessible so that people with disabilities and chronic illnesses feel welcome in the community.
My goal is to help build a cosplay community where anyone can participate—no matter their size, race, ability, gender, or background.
Because cosplay is for anyone who is kind, creative, and passionate.
